All too frequently, when his dad would invite him to play golf, Ray would have to turn down the offer because he had too much glass work to do. One night, his dad replied, "Too bad you couldn't make golf clubs out of glass!?" Ray hung up the telephone and thought, "Why not?" ...so the artist designed and then crafted a glass golf putter for his dad.

Ray Mathews, Sr., a Clemson University graduate, played professional football for the Pittsburgh Steelers (#25) in the 1950's. He participates in a lot of celebrity golf tournaments and proudly began using his unique glass putter in them! A country club golf pro tried the unique golf putter ...and he excitedly urged that it be patented and manufactured. The glass artist followed through!
