At Art Glass By Mathews, our art glass process begins with silica sand (a fine powdery substance) mixed with a combination of inert material. When heated to a temperature of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, this mixture becomes a pool of homogenized molten glass. Next, it is cooled down to a temperature of 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. The molten glass then takes on a consistency similar to hot taffy, allowing the glass artist to introduce color and design, suspending it into its timely creation. Each hand crafted glass creation is signed by the artist to assure its authenticity.
